Nero d'Avola

The Nero d'Avola grape is native to the Sicilian region of Italy.  The warm Sicilian climate of south-central Italy is what most say gives Nero d’Avola wine its fruity, clean and somewhat balanced flavor profile.  Nero d'Avola is a variety of black grape whose wine is often compared to finest Shiraz’s from Australia.  Nero d’Avola wine has a strong aromatic bouquet and a full body flavor profile.  Its mouth feel can be described as smooth or silky.  Nero d’Avola can be aged like a brunello wine without affecting its flavor in a negative way.  Depending on the region where the grape is harvested Nero d’Avola can go from being fruit forward  to acidic all while remaining an elegant drinking wine.

Tasting Notes: Plum or peppery flavours. Slightly fruit forward.

Suggested food pairings: lamb, tomato based sauces, dark chocolate, figs
