Helpful Videos

Each week I search the internet for instructional and helpful videos to bridge the gap between knowing and understanding gastronomy.

My first culinary experience happened at the tender age of 8 when I attempted to make chocolate mousse for the first time. Unfortunately the recipe assumed that I knew that I was supposed to whip the heavy cream. My West Indian parents were zero help as chocolate mousse was not a part of the Caribbean diet. Needless to say I made a tasty chocolate soup. It wasn't until years later while watching an old episode of Julia Childs on PBS that I realized I had to whip the cream. The take way from this experience is that recipes should be easy to follow but also expositional.  Basically, assume the reader knows nothing.

Each recipe posted on Gastronomer has been tried by me personally so I fully understand how and where things can go wrong.  These videos are meant to help visual explain technique or increase the understanding of food and drink.
